New Orleans NBA all- star Chris Paul and Jada Crawley were recently married. The two celebrated their wedding with 2 year old son Chris in tow. The event turned into a spectacular evening with dancing, delicious food and a performance by Robin Thicke. They also announced iCloud. I have been waiting for a reasonable offsite music storage site for some time. It will not only host music you buy from iTunes but also syncs to music from your library. It will host up to 25,000 songs for $24.99. Luckily, I only have a library of about 24,000 songs...

Legend of Lovers (pt. 2)

This is the interesting story of this half flower called the flower of Beach Naupaka "magoo". A priest at St. Rita 's Catholic Church in Haiku recalled this story during a wedding we attended.

It is said that two lovers, greatly devoted to each other, came to the attention of the Goddess Pele. Pele found the young man desirable and appeared before him as a beautiful stranger. But no matter what Pele did the lovers remained devoted to each other.

Angered, Pele chased the young man into the mountains, throwing molten lava at him. Pele's sisters witnessed this and to save the young man from a certain death they changed him into the mountain Naupaka. Pele immediately went after the young woman and chased her towards the sea - but again Pele's sisters stepped in and changed the young lover into beach Naupaka.

It is said that if the mountain Naupaka and beach Naupaka flowers are reunited, the two young lovers will be together again.

The Legend of Twin Rock

We visited the Tropical Botanical Garden in Hawaii and learned of two separate stories about lovers. The first is the Legend of Twin Rocks. This story is the origin of the two rock formations in the photo above. This formation is in the Onomea Bay and are said to be a young man and woman the lovers of Kahali'i. Check the rest of the story after the jump.

The village of Kahali’i was located on this large point of land which extends into Onomea Bay. Though the village is gone, the descendents of Kahali’i residents still remember some of the legends concerning the area’s landmarks. One story tells of the origin of two rock formations at the head of Onomea Bay that are said to be a young man and woman, known as the lovers of Kahali’i.

Legend has it that one day, a chief of the village spotted many canoes with sails heading shoreward in their direction. Fearing an attack, the chiefs and village elders held a council to determine a course of action. They decided to build a reef to prevent a landing on their beaches. Not having the means to complete the task quickly enough, they asked for two young lovers be the guides and protectors of the village by giving their lives. Two willing individuals were found.

That night a decree was sent to all who lived at Kahali’i to remain indoors from sunset to sunrise without making any light or sound, on penalty of death. In the light of the new day, everyone went down to the shoreline where they were amazed to find the lovers gone, and in their place two gigantic rock formations at the entrance of the bay, attached to each other, as if on guard.

The chief informed the people that no canoe could pass the treacherous currents swirling around the rocks unless allowed to do so by the guardians. The lovers and their offspring still stand today, sentinels at the head of the bay.

Hawaii Winter Wedding

My fiance and I were recently in Hawaii for a wedding. The weather was warm and Hawaii is a true paradise. The wedding was held in beautiful St. Rita's Catholic Church in Haiku. The reception was equally stunning and held in an old sugar mill under the stars.

We enjoyed four days in Maui and flew over to the big island to stay on the Kohala Coast for the remainder of the trip. We had a wonderful time. We went snorkeling and saw all kind of plant and wildlife. One beach was lined with tortoises, and in one area can you believe TURKEYS? Hawaii is a fantastic way to beat those Winter Blues.

A Wedding at Galloway

This is the beautiful wedding of Etta and Phillip, held at Galloway Church here in Jackson, Mississippi. The floral arrangements were out of this world! The entire chapel smelled of wonderful fresh cut flowers. The couple held the reception at our good friends, The Old Capitol Inn. As usual, Bruce Cain did an outstanding job and everything was delicious. Enjoy

What a Winter!!

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas, spent warm and full of family and friends. My fiance and I began our winter holidays in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. We had a fine time with my family. We sang karaoke and relaxed in the hot tub. As you can see it was a true Winter Wonderland, so much so we were snowed in for 5 days!!!

We had the opportunity to visit Meridian earlier this year and shot a beautiful wedding at the Central United Methodist Church. The reception was a blast, and people danced all night long. I really enjoyed working with their photographer, David Shirk. He was awesome. I can't wait to make it back to Meridian!

We had a fantastic time last weekend visiting the Mississippi coast. We were down south for a wedding that was held at the Oak Crest Mansion Inn. If you have never been there, it is a treat--the grounds are beautiful and the staff is amazing. We enjoyed eating at the Sycamore house (they have the most wonderful homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream) and checked out the Harbor, right next to Shaggy's. If you have time this summer you should make your way down (and get the oysters!!)
